This is an intermediate to advanced loop tour of about 10 miles on a newly created section of the Catamount Trail, nearly all ungroomed backcountry. The terrain is generally moderate with a few steep bits to keep things interesting and which, therefore, requires reasonable downhill skills. The tour will start at the leader’s house, which is one mile east of route 100 on route 58. The route follows the Catamount trail to Route 100, continues to Hazen’s Notch and then returns.

This 11-mile tour provides a challenging descent from Lincoln Gap. The route follows mainly ungroomed terrain that meanders through the woods of the Mad River Valley.

This will be a leisurely paced tour of 2 to 4 hours in search of nature’s footprints on the snow. Expect lots of stopping to look at things. Either snowshoes or skis are acceptable modes of travel, but skiers should be competent to go off trail at times.
