Default CTA offers Summer 2008 Internship

CTA Map and Graphic Design Internship
Summer 2008

The Catamount Trail Association is a member-supported, non-profit organization that manages and promotes the Catamount Trail, Vermont’s 300-mile long backcountry ski trail. Designed for winter, non-motorized use only, the CT runs from Readsboro, on the Massachusetts border, to Jay, on the Quebec border, traversing mountains, forests, fields, and villages along the way. For more information about CTA, see Catamount Trail: Home.

During the summer of 2008, CTA is seeking a Map and Graphic Design Intern to create a variety of trail maps and other printed materials, deliver maps to trail register boxes along the trail, and repair the trail register boxes. The intern will work mostly in the CTA office in Burlington but will spend approximately two weeks toward the end of the summer out on the Trail. The intern must have access to a reliable car.

Internship duration: 7 weeks
Start date: early June (flexible)
End date: early August (flexible)
Pay Scale: $9/hr.
Supervisor: CTA Trail Manager
Location: Burlington and various locations along the Trail
Needed skills: proficiency with ArcGIS and graphic design software; proficiency with basic hand tools (hammer, pliers, screwdriver, saw, etc.).

The intern must be reliable and responsible, creative and resourceful. We need an individual who is organized and pays great attention to detail but can also problem solve and take initiative when the situation calls for it. This internship will be most meaningful to students who have done backcountry hiking or skiing and understand the map needs of trail users. The intern will gain insight into the rewards and challenges of managing a public recreational resource and working for a non-profit organization.
